Rajasthan Festival Day 4 & 5 – 30th and 31st March

Finales are always a hoot! And the finale of this festival does not disappoint. On 30th, most of the day is booked with the closing sessions of all festivals and competitions. There is also a Rajasthan Diwas ceremony which consists of project mapping.

Other than the events that continue, there are two excellent programs meant for anyone and everyone who appreciates art and culture. There is Qawwali show, which an Islamic form of music. Qawwali also centers around Sufi music, so it’s a haven for all the music enthusiasts. There is also a Kavi Sammelan hosted at Albert Hall. A Kavi Sammelan is a gathering of poets where they all read aloud the beautiful formation of insightful words that they have put together.

Rajasthan Day

On 30th as well as the final day, a grand procession takes place, marking the occasion of Gangaur. Gangaur is a festival which is celebrated by the local Rajasthanis to honor the holy ties of matrimony. “Gan” in the word Gangaur is for Lord Shiva, and “Gaur” signifies his spouse Lord Parvati, who’s another name is “Gauri.” Little girls dress up dolls as grooms and brides, with bright red wedding apparel and mehndi, and a make-pretend wedding ceremony is held. Henceforth, a procession of monumental scale is passed through the city, with people enthusiastically dancing and singing the folk songs
